A Mamajuana-style infusion that blends rum, red wine, honey, and warm spices into a smooth, sippable drink. This simplified version skips the traditional wood blend but keeps the spirit of the original, making it easy to prepare at home with familiar ingredients.
Background
Mamajuana is a traditional Dominican drink with roots in Taíno, African, and Spanish influences. It’s typically made by infusing rum, wine, and honey with a mix of tree bark and herbs. While the original uses specialized botanicals, simplified versions like this one became popular for their accessibility and ease of preparation.

- Star Anise – contributes a light licorice note

What Makes This Version Work

- Try a fruit-forward red wine for a softer finish
- Add a strip of lemon peel for extra citrus lift
- Include a slice of fresh ginger for added warmth
Helpful Tips
- Shake the jar daily to keep flavors moving and evenly infused
