The Tropical Sisters cocktail combines strawberry, banana, coconut, and light rum in a creamy tropical serve that still has enough fresh lime to stay balanced. Banana liqueur reinforces the fruit without taking over, while coconut cream gives the drink its smooth texture and unmistakable island-style richness.
What You'll Need
Ingredients
- Light Rum – provides a clean sugarcane base that lets the fruit and coconut stay prominent.
- Banana Liqueur – adds ripe banana flavor and extra sweetness.
- Coconut Cream – gives the cocktail its rich tropical body and creamy texture.
- Strawberry Juice – supplies fresh berry flavor, color, and fruit sweetness.
- Lime Juice – adds acidity to balance the banana liqueur and coconut cream.
A clean white rum is the best substitute for Light Rum. If Banana Liqueur is unavailable, a small amount of banana syrup can provide the flavor, though the cocktail will be lower in alcohol and may need slightly less coconut cream or strawberry juice to avoid becoming too sweet.
Equipment
- Cocktail shaker
- Jigger
- Cocktail strainer
- Hurricane glass
Strawberry, Banana, Coconut, and Enough Lime
The key to this combination is keeping the richer ingredients under control.
Coconut cream provides plenty of body on its own, so there is no need for additional dairy cream. Banana liqueur is kept to a supporting measure, while strawberry juice supplies most of the fruit character.
Fresh lime ties everything together by cutting through the sweetness and richness.
Substitutions & Variations
Use aged rum instead of Light Rum for a deeper version with more vanilla and oak character.
For a stronger strawberry profile, add a fresh strawberry to the shaker and muddle it lightly before adding the other ingredients. Keep the Strawberry Juice in the recipe so the drink retains enough liquid volume.
For a slightly lighter texture, reduce the Coconut Cream rather than diluting the cocktail with extra juice.
If you prefer more acidity, increase the Lime Juice slightly rather than reducing the fruit ingredients.
Helpful Tips
Shake vigorously. Coconut cream needs more agitation than a standard juice-and-spirit cocktail to fully integrate.
If your coconut cream has separated in the container, stir it smooth before measuring.
Use fresh Lime Juice. The acidity is doing important work against both the Banana Liqueur and Coconut Cream.
Crushed ice suits the rich tropical texture and gradually opens the drink as it sits.
Fresh strawberry makes the most natural garnish. A lime wheel also works if you want a cleaner presentation.
Serve immediately after shaking so the cocktail stays cold and evenly mixed.
